Transport methods

Drive-Away vs. Tow-Away RV Transport

Motorhomes are typically driven by a professional driver. Trailers and non-running RVs are towed or loaded onto flatbeds.

Drive-Away ServiceMost popular for motorhomes

Drive-Away Service

A licensed, insured professional driver picks up your motorhome and drives it to the destination. The driver handles fueling, tolls, and route planning. Ideal for Class A, B, and C motorhomes that are in running condition. The most cost-effective method for drivable RVs.

  • Licensed CDL driver assigned
  • Full insurance coverage en route
  • Real-time GPS tracking
  • Fuel and tolls included in quote
  • Best for drivable motorhomes
  • No oversize permit needed (Class B/C)
Tow-Away / Flatbed TransportRequired for trailers

Tow-Away / Flatbed Transport

Your travel trailer, fifth wheel, or non-running motorhome is connected to a commercial tow vehicle or loaded onto an oversize flatbed. Required for any RV that can't be driven -- including all travel trailers and fifth wheels. Oversize permits and escort vehicles arranged for wide loads.

  • Commercial tow truck or flatbed
  • Fifth-wheel and bumper-pull capable
  • Oversize permits for wide loads
  • Escort vehicles when required
  • Non-running motorhome capable
  • Full cargo insurance coverage

What affects your RV transport price

RV transport pricing varies significantly based on vehicle size, weight, and transport method. Understanding these factors helps you budget accurately.

RV class & length

Class B vans are cheapest. Class C adds 20-40%. Class A motorhomes 33+ feet require oversize permits and cost 2-3x more.

Transport method

Drive-away is cheapest for drivable motorhomes. Tow-away adds for the tow truck. Flatbed is most expensive for non-running or oversize.

Distance & route

Longer distances cost less per mile but more total. Interstate routes are cheaper than mountain passes or rural roads.

Oversize permits

RVs wider than 8.5 feet or taller than 13.5 feet require oversize permits ($100-$500) and potentially escort vehicles ($500-$1,500).

Weight & slide-outs

Heavier RVs cost more to transport. Extended slide-outs affect width measurements for permit requirements.

Season & snowbird routes

Fall southbound (Oct-Dec) and spring northbound (Mar-May) are peak RV transport season. Rates are 15-25% higher.
