Ship Your Car Anywhere in the World

International car shipping combines domestic ground transport (getting your vehicle to a US port) with ocean freight (shipping it across the water) and destination customs clearance. The process involves more steps than domestic shipping, but we coordinate every detail -- from your driveway to the destination port.

Whether you're relocating overseas for work, military deployment, purchasing a vehicle abroad, or moving back to your home country, we handle the logistics. You choose between container shipping (private, enclosed, maximum protection) or RoRo shipping (Roll-On/Roll-Off, lower cost, shared vessel). Both methods are safe and proven -- the choice depends on your budget and vehicle value.

Documentation

Customs Clearance & Required Documents

International shipping requires specific documentation for both US export and destination import. We coordinate with licensed customs brokers at both ends, but you'll need to provide certain documents.

  • Original Title (or Certified Copy)

The vehicle title is required for export. If you have a lien, your lender must provide a letter authorizing export.

  • Bill of Sale or Purchase Agreement

Proves ownership and value for customs declaration purposes at both origin and destination.

  • Valid Government-Issued Photo ID

Passport or state ID. If shipping for a company, a corporate authorization letter is also required.

  • EPA & DOT Compliance (for import countries)

Some countries require emissions and safety compliance certificates. We advise which are needed for your destination.

  • Power of Attorney

Authorizes our customs broker to act on your behalf for export/import clearance. We provide the form.

We Handle the Hard Part

Our international shipping team prepares the export declaration, coordinates with the customs broker, handles port documentation, and manages all carrier paperwork. You provide the vehicle documents -- we handle the logistics paperwork.

Import Duties & Taxes

Most countries charge import duties and taxes on vehicle imports. These vary dramatically: UK charges 6.5% duty + 20% VAT. Australia charges 5% duty + 10% GST + luxury car tax. UAE has no duty. We provide estimates for your destination but actual amounts are determined by destination customs.

Marine Cargo Insurance

All international shipments include basic carrier liability, but we strongly recommend all-risk marine cargo insurance. This covers total loss, damage, and theft during ocean transit. Typical cost is 1.5-2.5% of declared vehicle value.

Common questions

International Shipping FAQ

International shipping costs $1,200-$6,000+ depending on destination, method (RoRo vs container), and vehicle size. Europe RoRo starts at $1,200 for a sedan. Container to Europe starts at $1,800. Middle East, Asia, and Australia are higher due to distance.

Ocean transit varies: UK 10-14 days, Western Europe 14-21 days, Middle East 25-35 days, Japan 30-40 days, Australia 35-50 days. Add 5-10 business days for domestic transport to port and export customs, plus 3-7 days for destination customs clearance.

RoRo (Roll-On/Roll-Off) means your car is driven onto the ship and parked in the cargo hold -- cheaper but the vehicle must be running. Container shipping places your car inside a private shipping container -- more expensive but offers maximum protection and allows personal items.

With container shipping, yes -- you can fill the remaining container space with personal items. This is a major advantage of container shipping and can offset the higher cost if you're also moving household goods. With RoRo, no personal items are allowed inside the vehicle.

No. We coordinate with licensed customs brokers at both the US export port and the destination import port. They handle all documentation, duties, and clearance. You provide vehicle documents (title, bill of sale, ID) and we handle the rest.

Import duties vary by country. UK: 6.5% duty + 20% VAT. Australia: 5% duty + 10% GST + luxury car tax on vehicles over AUD $71k. UAE: 5% duty, no VAT. EU: 10% duty + country VAT (19-25%). We provide estimates, but actual amounts are determined by destination customs.

All major US ports: New York/Newark, Baltimore, Savannah, Jacksonville, Houston, Long Beach/LA, Oakland, and Tacoma. We select the closest port to your location that services your destination.

Only via container shipping. RoRo requires the vehicle to be running and driveable since it must be driven on and off the ship. Container shipping can accommodate non-running vehicles since they are loaded by forklift.

Basic carrier liability is included, but we strongly recommend all-risk marine cargo insurance. This covers total loss, partial damage, and theft during the entire ocean transit. Cost is typically 1.5-2.5% of your vehicle's declared value.

Yes. We coordinate inbound international shipping as well. Vehicles must meet EPA emissions and DOT safety standards for US import (generally 25+ year old vehicles are exempt). We handle customs on the US side and domestic delivery to your address.

Same as domestic: wash the car, take photos, remove personal items (unless container), leave 1/4 tank of fuel, disable alarms, fold mirrors. Additionally, check for fluid leaks (some ports reject vehicles with active leaks) and ensure no aftermarket modifications violate destination country regulations.

Yes. Active-duty military on OCONUS (Outside Continental US) PCS orders receive 5-10% discounts on international shipping. We work with TMO offices and understand the documentation requirements for military vehicle exports. Contact our military shipping specialists.
